From bare-bones to lavish, township buildings run the gamut

In the world of municipal buildings, West Marlborough’s township building would take the prize for the most bare-bones municipal complex in the county.
The township doesn’t own any land, doesn’t have a Web site, and holds its board of supervisors meetings in its maintenance building next to the dump truck.
“We’re happy with the arrangement,” said longtime supervisor Hugh Lofting. There is never any talk of perhaps building their own complex. They currently rent the few buildings at 1300 Doe Run Rd. and the township secretary shares space in another rented building with the Brandywine Conservancy. (more…)

    The crime of driving under the influence has had a remarkable affect on the lives of residents of Chester County, as shown by the responses to a question posed by the Daily Local News.
    “Have you or a loved one been affected by an arrest for DUI?” we asked our readers. Readers then made comments on the Daily Local News Web site, or sent e-mails to a reporter with on-the-record or anonymous thoughts, some brief, some lengthy. Some readers who responded were interviewed individually in follow-up telephone calls.

    Thanks to the blinding speed and ubiquity of modern communications, we live in a “gotta have it now” world. A deluge of information is constantly available, almost in real time, about events that take place anywhere from halfway around the world to our own doorstep. And simultaneously we are being bombarded with e-mails, video clips, text messages, and phone calls on our computers and cell phones.
    It’s too bad this far reaching technology wasn’t around to capture some of the most important events in our history. Imagine owning a DVD that included Abraham Lincoln giving his speech at the dedication of the national cemetery in Gettysburg, George Washington reading his first inaugural address, and John Brown’s testimony at his trial for treason.
